Mozzarella Fresca Makes History as the First U.S. Fresh Mozzarella Producer to Win a Gold Medal at World Cheese Awards

San Francisco, June 28, 2006 – Every year, the top cheese producers from the United States, Europe, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa compete in the World Cheese Awards in London, England.  Last week, California based Mozzarella Fresca made history by being the first United States producer to win a Gold Medal for Fresh Mozzarella.

“The prestige of winning Gold at the World Cheese Awards is close to taking Gold in the Olympics” says Bob Farrand of the UK Cheese Guild and chairman of the contest, “it doesn’t get any better because you’ve been judged alongside the very best in the world.”  “The Americans impressed the World Cheese Awards judges,” says Marc A.H. Beck, Senior Vice President of Market Development for the U.S. Dairy Export Council, “from farmstead originals to fresh mozzarellas.”

Mozzarella Fresca is no stranger to winning awards, having received numerous Best in Class, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at the top United States Cheese Competitions, but being the first United States fresh mozzarella producer to receive a Gold Medal at the World Cheese Awards has special meaning.
